Did you know that Rigged was chosen by "The L-Word" costume designer to create fabulous fashions for the show's cast of characters? It's true! And if you've been watching the show (and we know you have), you've probably seen RIGGED fashion in almost every episode.
The entire
restaurant/bar "The Planet's" waitstaff and chef funiforms (including
the cute western shirt Jenny wears at work) were embellished with
RIGGED's signature swallow bird design on it. MOIRA and SHANE will each
be seen wearing a version of the ever-popular MAMA'S BOI
TATTOOS/SWALLOW BIRD shirts. Moira showed up at Billy's genderqueer
houseparty wearing a RIGGED old man's GOLF JACKET W/EAGLE print. CARMEN
wore the THIRSTY MERMAID'S MILK BAR t-shirt in episode 2. And BILLY,
those fags always get the funnest pieces -- check out his LADYKILLER
MERMAID POLO and BUTCH WING JUMPSUIT.

And now, how it all happened ...
Last May, right before shooting for Season 3 of the the L Word was to begin, I was invited up to Vancouver to spend a week at the L Word's production site, working with Cynthia Summers, the hit t.v. series' costumer designer. I had met Cynthia during fashion week here in NY last February. I brought a suitcase full of my queer/genderqueer clothing samples to her hotel and did an impromptu presentation for her right there in her room, since I didn't have a showroom or a runway show or even a design studio to invite her to!
Cynthia got what I was trying to do with my concepts, and a few months later, presented my line and website to Ilene Chaiken, the creator andexecutive producer of The L Word. Ilene showed great interest in giving visibility to RIGGED and a dyke designer on the show and soon I was on my way to Vancouver.
On the set of The L Word, I met the producers, directors, writers, and cast of the show. Rose Troche, who I feel at this point is iconic to lesbian/queer cinema, and her writer/director partner, Cherien Dabis, showed me around Vancouver in the evenings. I got to meet Kim Pierce, of Boys Don't Cry fame, who was one of the directors of Season 3 of the show. And yes, because I know you're going to ask, I did get to meet and do a little wardrobe meeting with Carmen and Shane's actresses, amongst other cast members. Moira's character had not been cast yet, so I didn't get to work directly with Daniela Sea. But, I was lucky to chat with her a bit later that summer at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, and knew before I saw the first episode of the new season, that Daniela was going to do us queer folk proud by bringing such integrity and honesty to her character. It's great to have such an openly queer person playing the role of Moira/Max on the show, isn't it?
You can catch RIGGED on The L Word in almost ever episode. You can get looks similiar to what I designed for the L Word online at the RIGGED STORE and also thru the L Word's online fashion showcase. They should be adding more RIGGED products through out the season.
I am currently working on creating more clothing to sell that reflect the one-of-a-kind pieces that were picked up on the show. I want to put a shout out to our local L Word rockstar-about-town and say thanks to Elizabeth Ziff for supporting me and also thanks to Amy Ziff for getting me to think outside of the box and create some RIGGED pieces for the ladies as well. Cheers to all of you gorgeous queer visionaries out in the world that are creating a more colorful and accepting place for us all.
